l I feel this is another evergreen song. “Ekwueme,” song doesn’t follow a particular sequence; there is no chorus, hook, or clear verse. However, “Ekwueme” predominated the lyrics. The artists sang mostly in Igbo; a Nigerian Language. The song is soul-lifting. The artists have convincing vocals; they sang with so much conviction about the Creator. The major instruments used to compose the song include drums, piano, and guitar. The tune sounds mournful though.

The good thing about this song “Ekwueme,” is that it was fully translated to English by the artists; so, non-Igbos can easily identify with the song. They don’t have to fear that they do not know the meaning of what they are singing.

Also, for those Igbos in Nigeria that are just Igbo in “paper,” as in Igbos that can’t speak their language; count yourselves lucky. The Igbo vocabulary used here are major Igbo words; so get ready to start learning how to speak.

Realally, I feel if there is anyone out there; Nigerian or non-Nigerian that wants to start learning how to speak and understand Igbo; this song is a great starter in that aspect. Even, “Me, Myself and I” already learned the meaning of some words in Igbo.

View the new words I learned below…

Angel: Mmoziya; All-wise God: Amama amasi amasi; Elephant: Enyi; Lion: Odumu/Awolo; Tiger: Agu: Antelope: Mgbada; Great masquerade: Oke nmwanwu; Goes in spirit: Oje n’ nmuo

What is the song “Ekwueme,” by Prospa Ochimana ft Osinachi Nwachukwu all about?

“Ekwueme “ is an Igbo word in Nigeria that means “The God who says and does it.”

In the song “Ekwueme,” the artists praise God for his wonders, goodness, mighty powers, greatness, wisdom, and love for all humans. They describe God as the never-changing God, the incomparable God, and the one whose presence in a place makes all things good. They describe God as the one who has the power to speak and make it come to pass; the one that needs no permission from anyone to act. The God that never goes back on His words; he will always do that which he has promised to do.
