Suppose you were already a teenager in 2004. In that case, I am sure you are familiar with the popular MoHits Record owned by Michael Collins Ajereh, aka Don Jazzy and Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, aka Dbanj.
Don Jazzy was the president, while Dbanj was the vice president then. There were great artists like Dbanj himself, Wande Coal, Dr SID, D’Prince and Kayswitch. They really made great hits, with Dbanj topping them all. Regardless of one person’s success over others, there was love and unity among them.
However, in 2012, Dbanj exited the label based on irreconcilable differences. That paved the way for Tiwa Savage to join, making her the record label’s first lady.
Another issue popped up between Dbanj and Don Jazzy on the actual owner of the record label, MoHits, which made Don Jazzy change the record label’s name to Mavins.
After the name change, the record label still had Dr SID, D’Prince, Wande Coal, Tiwa Savage, while new artists like Reekado Banks, Dija, Korede Bello joined. Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, and Reekado Banks have since left the group.
New artists like Rema, Ladipoe, Johny Drille, Crayon, Ayra Starr have joined the Mavins Record Label, and her doing great.
My Bahd was all that story necessary for the headline; sorry, I just needed to share the history of Mavins before the main gist.
So, to the main gist…
Usually, whenever any artist leaves Don Jazzy’s record label, there is always an end of communication between Don Jazzy and the artist. There is always a disagreement between Don Jazzy and the artist. Why this happens is what I don’t know.
So, after Dbanj, K Switch, Wande Coal, Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks left the record label, they have not been relating well with Don Jazzy; if they do in public, it is eye-service. I am sure it is not genuine.
Although Tiwa Savage has somehow found favour in Don Jazzy’s sight, she is the only ex-mavin who seems to be in partial communication with Don Jazzy.
On Don Jazzy’s 39th birthday, the ex-mavins put aside their differences on Friday, 26th November, and wished Don Jazzy a happy birthday on their Instagram pages.
Tiwa Savage, DBanj, and Reekado Banks celebrated him; you can view their messages in this clip.
The only ex-mavin that did not celebrate Don Jazzy is Wande Coal. It seems like he and Don Jazzy have not put aside their differences.
What do you all think?
Meanwhile, DBanj removed his birthday message to Don Jazzy. I wonder why though.
