The meaning of UAR & why President Buhari wants to change Nigeria to UAR; how costly can this be…

UAR is an acronym for United African Republic…

United African Republic is the proposed new name for the country- Nigeria.

The change of country name from Nigeria to United African Republic (UAR) was not proposed by the incumbent president of Nigeria- Muhammadu Buhari. This was made known to the public by Bashir Ahmad, who is President Muhammadu Buhari’s special assistant on news media via his tweet.

View Bashir’s tweet below

“It’s not the Nigerian government, particularly, Pres Buhari that submitted the change of name proposal, it’s an individual or a group that submitted it. “But a large number of people have already taken it to their head, accusing the President of something he absolutely no hand in.”

Further research on this name change shows that a tax consultant, Adeleye Jokotoye, was the one who proposed that the name Nigeria should be changed to the United African Republic. According to Jokotoye, the name “Nigeria,” which was named by Flora Shaw, wife of a colonialist, Lord Lugard, and not the citizens does not promote unity among citizens.

View the proposal submitted to the National Assembly Committee by Jokotoye during a public hearing of altering the constitution and making amendments to it.

“First and foremost, I want to recommend a name change from Nigeria to the United African Republic (UAR). The significance of name change cannot be overemphasized. Even God our father, in the Holy books, changed names of prophets e.g. Saul to Paul, Jacob to Israel, etc. The reason for the name change is to physically and psychologically reflect a new beginning. It is mandatory that we change our name to reflect a new beginning which will be ushered in with a new constitution.”

“The word ‘Africa’ is a Greek word meaning ‘Without Cold’. Africa was originally called ‘Alkebulan’, meaning ‘Mother of Mankind’ (Garden of Eden). Alkebulan is the oldest and the only word of indigenous origin used by Moors, Nubians, and Ethiopians. So, if we like, we can go a step further and name our nation, United Alkebulan Republic (meaning ‘United Mother of Mankind Republic).”

In summary, what Jokotoye is saying is that the name Nigeria is not working for Nigeria. As a matter of fact, it is working against Nigeria, as there is no unity in the country.

But will renaming the country change the current situation in the country? May be! Maybe not!

Will adding “United” to a country’s name make the country united? I really don’t think so!

Renaming the country won’t change anything. The only thing that will change is the currency, map, anthem…

” Arise, O compatriots
Nigeria call obey
To serve our Fatherland
With love and strength and faith.
The labor of our heroes past
Shall never be in vain
To serve with heart and might
One nation bound in freedom, peace, and unity”

and every item or object that has the name Nigeria. This is really an expensive project to start when the country still has a high rate of joblessness, insecurity, power failure, bad road, hunger, etc.

Again, the project di (is) very costly. Nigeria should first of all fix itself and the people before any name change.

It is not until unity is added to a name before one can be united. Truth be told Nigeria is not united. We need to be more intellectual, tolerant, and understanding of others to be united. You can’t be a dictator, or you want everything to be on your terms, or gain something/position forcefully, and be seeking unity. You can’t hurt people for choosing to practice a religion of their own and be seeking unity. You can’t be insensitive, telling lies, robbing others, kidnapping people, killing people, causing inflation, suffering the nation, or doing wrongs and be seeking unity. We need to fix all the aforementioned, and Nigeria will truly be united.

May God help us!

First and foremost, I want to recommend a name change from Nigeria to the United African Republic (UAR).

The significance of name change cannot be overemphasized. Even God our father, in the Holy books, changed names of prophets e.g. Saul to Paul, Jacob to Israel, etc. The reason for the name change is to physically and psychologically reflect a new beginning.

Thus, at this crossroads in our history, it is mandatory that we change our name to reflect a new beginning that will be ushered in with a new constitution. The word ‘Africa’ is a Greek word meaning ‘Without Cold’. Africa was originally called ‘Alkebulan’, meaning ‘Mother of Mankind’ (Garden of Eden).

Alkebulan is the oldest and the only word of indigenous origin used by Moors, Nubians, and Ethiopians. So, if we like, we can go a step further and name our nation, United Alkebulan Republic (meaning ‘United Mother of Mankind Republic’).

The new constitution should also give room for continuous review as and when due, and future referendum if required also want to suggest the following.

The constitution should provide for a council for each of these offices where six members from each geo-political zone will be represented to take collective unanimous decisions for the office, instead of one man holding all the powers of the office.

These council members will attain the position by seniority and number of years in service, and they will each need a department in the service as well as being council members.
