Hip Hop World Award aka Headies is a popular award in Nigeria. It is an annual award done to reward outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry.
After several postponements of the yearly show due to COVID-19 and its severe impact all over the world, the ceremony eventually took place on Sunday, 21st February 2021 at the La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort, Ibeju-Lekki.
It was a virtual award, the first of its kind in order to keep with the Covid 19 restriction in Lagos. It started at 3pm with explore live. The red carpet was at 5pm while the award ceremony was at 8pm. It was hosted by presenter, Nancy Isime and comedian, Bovi.
The notable celebrities that graced the occasion include Desmond Elliot, Iyabo Ojo, Mc Lively, Bro Shaggy, Sound Sultan, and a host of others. Performances were done by Omah lay, Fireboy, Laycon, Niyola, Cobham Asuquo, Zinoleesky, Chike, Bad boy Timz, Lay lay, Alpha P, Jamo Pyper, Jdess. The presenters of the night are Bovi and Nancy Isime .
The ceremony was sponsored by Tiger beerng, fearless, fierceng, munch it.
Twenty-four awards were given during the ceremony. The awards were presented by Laycon, Erica, Kim Oprah,Alex, YK, Eniola Badmus, Broda Shaggy, Mc Lively, Idris Connecting Logo, Miz Vick, Deyemi, Dotun, Mawuli Gavor, and AY.
Fireboy won about five awards in the award ceremony. He was the biggest winner of the night. Best R and B Single (Tattoo); Best R and B Album (Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps); Best pop Album (Apollo), Headies Revelation.

Five hidden truth about the 14th headies awards
1. Fireboy had the most awards; he won (5) in total. If you recall, Wande won 5 in 2010, Psquare 5 in 2004, and Fireboy in 2021
2. A new category was added; songwriter of the year and Simi was the first person to win it.
3. First virtual award in headies history
4. First-time Nominee; the caveman won the best alternative album category.
5. Done without the crowd, mostly pre-recorded performances, presentations, and events…
6. Ladipo after winning the category best collabo for the song “Know you” did not appreciate or mention Simi on stage, but mentioned her off stage…
Who was the winner that was not awarded?
And who could that be? I don’t think there is any. There was really no controversy after the ceremony, which means for the first time, Headies organized a free and fair award ceremony.
