A 49-year-old journalist in Zimbabwe, Hopewell Chin’ono was recently arrested and locked up in prison over his tweets that exposed a gold smuggling scandal, and a multimillion-dollar scandal involving the procurement of coronavirus supplies in May. He was however accused of stirring-up public violence with his tweet.
When Hopewell made an appearance in Harare magistrate court, it was gathered that he was bound in leg irons and handcuffs like a dangerous criminal, and was later charged with obstructing justice and contempt of court for the tweet.
His case has however been adjourned to Monday, November 9th, 2020.
